First, How to Read HBOT Evidence

One caveat makes every HBOT claim you will ever read easier to judge: pressure. Almost all published clinical research was conducted at medical pressures of 2.0 ATA or higher, in hard chambers, under physician supervision, often across dozens of sessions. Health authorities internationally recognise it for a defined set of diagnosed indications, among them decompression sickness in divers, carbon monoxide poisoning, certain non-healing wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers, radiation-injured tissue, and compromised skin grafts. What these share is the mechanism this whole field rests on: tissue that cannot get enough oxygen through injured or restricted circulation heals poorly, and dissolving extra oxygen into plasma reaches it anyway. None of this is what a wellness centre provides, and a diagnosed condition on that list belongs in a hospital hyperbaric unit with a physician, full stop. We include the tier because it anchors the science: the reason gentler HBOT is plausible for recovery at all is that pressurised oxygen has proven, mainstream medical uses at stronger doses.

Tier Two: Promising for Recovery

The recovery tier is the research closest to what a wellness centre actually offers, and two findings stand out (see Sources below).

  • Post-surgical healing: a 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery pooled studies of hyperbaric oxygen as a recovery adjunct in aesthetic surgery and found significantly faster healing with fewer post-operative complications.   • Muscle recovery: a 2019 randomised study of athletes with exercise-related muscle injuries reported lower muscle-damage markers and less pain across a course of HBOT sessions. It fits the broader recovery literature, where techniques that improve oxygen delivery and circulation consistently outperform passive rest.
  • In both cases the honest label is promising: real controlled data, meaningful effects, and a research base that is still growing rather than settled.

Tier Three: Emerging Research Worth Watching

The most striking recent HBOT study is the one to hold most lightly. Researchers at Tel Aviv University's Sagol Center ran a randomised controlled trial in healthy adults over 64 and found that a 60-session HBOT course improved attention, information-processing speed, and global cognitive scores, published in Aging in 2020 (see Sources below). It is a real trial with a control group, and it points at something genuinely interesting about oxygen delivery and the ageing brain. It is also sixty sessions at medical pressure in a research setting, which no wellness package replicates. The right way to hold this tier: it explains why longevity-focused guests are curious about HBOT and why the research community keeps funding studies, and it would be dishonest of any provider, us included, to sell it as an expected outcome. We would rather you be pleasantly surprised than oversold.

What Guests Actually Report at Wellness Pressures

What HBOT Is Not

HBOT is not a treatment for any diagnosed medical condition when delivered at wellness pressures, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling past the evidence. We do not offer it for long COVID, where claims at wellness pressures outrun the research.
